Last Thursday, winter came roaring into central & northern New Mexico with heavy snowfall over most of Santa Fe County and the rest of north-central New Mexico. Although the storm passed through overnight, Friday remained cold & cloudy. Saturday and Sunday, though, were perfect examples of “bluebird days”, with the famous deep turquoise skies of New Mexico bringing out the glitter in the fresh, white snow. Here are a few snapshots from around my neighborhood. Enjoy!
How was the weekend weather in your neck of the woods? Describe how early winter has been for you in the comments!
I have been to Santa Fe and New Mexico at large a couple of times during this time of year, and I think of it often. The Palo Santo burning in the morning in the hills, the silence of the altitude, and the cover of snow. Your photos are so simple and evocative for me, thank you for this beautiful post welcoming winter.
After several decades of life, I became a Utah boy, so I know and love the desert. I made it down your way many a time. So how did I get to Utah? Isn't it funny how seeds of ideas have to planted, and then they either sprout, or are forgotten.
When I was a young boy in a completely urban environment, my grandmother was subscribing to Arizona Highways. I spent many fascinating hours whenever I was at her house, looking through those landscapes and wildflowers that were a complete mystery to a city boy. Then I made it a part of my life, unconsciously for sure.
